#02 – New Materials for the Biosphere | Constantin Singer (OceanSafe), Maria Zakurnaeva (Furoid)

Show notes

Artificial meat is already a big topic in the economy for quite some time. But what if we would say that artificial fur could become the next big thing in the fashion industry? Our second episode features keynotes from Constantine Singer, the Textile Technology Manager of Oceansafe, and Maria Zakurnaeva, the cofounder of Furoid. These two innovative textiles could change the future of fashion, with positive impact alternatives to polyester and fur. Constantine Singer presents a completely biodegradable polyester alternative and an interesting circular organic fiber. Furoid, our second topic, takes on an equally harmful material as polyester: fur. Furoid is doing something never seen before: fur that is grown in a lab, using genetic engineering to produce ‘real’ protein-based fibers, sans animal. Maria Zakurnaeva founded Furoid out of a joint passion for chemistry, fashion, and animal rights.
